Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis (ISSN: 0065-1400 (print), eISSN: 1689-0035) covers all aspects of neuroscience, from molecular and cellular neurobiology of the nervous system, through cellular and systems electrophysiology, brain imaging, functional and comparative neuroanatomy, development and evolution of the nervous system, behavior and neuropsychology to brain aging and pathology, including neuroinformatics and modeling. Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis publishes original research reports, short communications, reviews, descriptions of new methods, theoretical papers and letters to the editor.
Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis is a continuation of Acta Biologiae Experimentalis that was founded in 1928 and published articles in the broad area of experimental biology. From the beginning ANE was edited in the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology and had an international Board of Editors. In 1970 its name was changed and the scope was focused on neuroscience. The first Editor of ANE was Professor Jerzy Konorski and till 1989 it was published by Polish Scientific Publishers. The Nencki Institute became the publisher of ANE in 1990 and the Polish Neuroscience Society joined as co-publisher in 2002.

Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to over 1500 full text PDFs from all articles published since 1970 on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology’s mission is deeply rooted in its long history of excellence in basic scientific research, but it must be periodically revised in response to dynamically changing environment of scientific research and its economical and societal implications. Therefore at the beginning of the 21st century, termed by some “the age of biology”, the Institute’s mission and development strategy must be revaluated. The enclosed director’s note sets the context for such re-evaluation process, which should involve all the stakeholders, starting with the Institute’s research and support staff, and ending with the Institute’s Scientific Council and the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Polish Neuroscience Society was founded in 1991. The Society provides assistance in organization and supports development of studies of the nervous system. It brings together researchers conducting studies in this field and is involved in dissemination of knowledge. It is also engaged in popularization of neuroscience, organization of training courses, publication of related materials and represents Polish community of neuroscientists both in Poland and abroad.
