The Managerial Economics journal is published by the AGH University of Science and Technology Press

The main aim of Managerial Economics is to draw more attention to major decision problems and to present the principles of economic analysis which are required for optimal decision-making (i.e. making the decisions which are most appropriate taking into account the conditions in which the company and the economy operate and the factors that are necessary for the implementation of a given economic project). Managerial Economics examines and analyses the functioning mechanisms of modern market economies.

Following those trends the main scopes of the journal include:

 - discussion on the results of research which lead to a better understanding of decision-making problems and deepening the state of knowledge on the functioning mechanisms of modern economies, which are constantly becoming more complex,
 - presentation of the principles of economic analysis which may help in making optimal decisions in the light of business process and its individual elements, and an evaluation of the practical suitability of particular methods and results of analyses,
 - identification of the key decision-making problems which are being nowadays faced by managers,
 - evaluation of achievements in the field of the theoretical foundations of managerial decisions, which undoubtedly facilitates an understanding of the essence of the economic phenomena occurring at the interface between business entities and the economic environment,
 - presentation of the results of comprehensive analyses of investment decisions in the public and private sectors (including public project financing) taken in conditions of uncertainty.

The research problems listed above show that the main interest of modern managerial economics is the process of decision-making and a detailed analysis of the conditions and factors determining the optimal path of decisions in the production of broadly defined goods. Making optimal economic decisions requires quantitative analyses based on econometric modelling and forecasting. Thus, papers on the theory and practice of building and applying econometric models supporting the process of decision-making provide important insights into the issues discussed in the pages of the Managerial Economics.

The university was established in 1919, but its history goes back to 1912, when the Ministry of Public Works agreed to the founding of the Academy. In 1939 the Academy had already approximately 600 students and 30 professors. Interrupted by II World War it was soon reopened and until today continues its long didactic history.

Peer Review Process

Double blind review procedure

1. In order to assess a quality of submitted publication the Editorial Board consults at least two outside referees (not affiliated to any of the authors’ institutions) which are recognized experts in the specific field.

2. At least one of the referees must represent a foreign institution (i.e. an institution located in other country than the home institution of each author).

3. The journal uses double blind peer review policy, i.e. neither the author nor the referee knows the identity of the other. In addition, each referee signs a declaration of no conflict of interests, whereby the conflict of interest is defined as a direct personal relationship (kinship to the second degree, legal relationships, marriage) or a professional scientific cooperation between the referee and the author which took place at least once in the past two years preceding the year of accepting the invitation to review.

4. Only written referee reports are considered (journal does not accept face-to-face or phone-call- based reports). Each report should clearly express the referee’s final recommendation (i.e. whether the  article should be accepted for publication, revised or rejected). The referees are kindly requested to fill the review form which can be found in “For reviewers” section. In general, the referees are asked to:

  • the scientific importance of the submission’s topic
  • the quality of research:

verify whether:

  • the Abstract is concise and informative
  • the facts and interpretations are satisfactorily separated in the text
  • the interpretations and conclusions follow from the data
  • the length and structure of the paper is appropriate
  • the paper can be shortened without loss of quality
  • all the tables and figures are necessary
  • the diagrams and photographs are of good quality
  • there are all essential figures that should be prepared
  • all the references are exact
  • the manuscript requires proof reading by native speaker
  • there is sufficient attention given to previous research.

5. The names of the referees of particular articles are classified.

6. Once a year the journal publishes the complete list of referees.
