APPLICATION OF POTASSIUM FERRATE(VI) FOR OXIDATION OF SELECTED POLLUTANTS IN AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT – SHORT REVIEW

. Very often Fe(VI) salts are called environmentally friendly and therefore potassium ferrate(VI) is often called “environmentally friendly oxidant” [5]. For many years, various research investigations have been carried out on the application of K2FeO4 for the degradation of various pollutants in water and wastewater. In this paper authors focused on pollutants deriving from the industry and mining like: cyanides, organic compounds, dyes and also removal of algae from potable water. 2. DEGRADATION

APPLICATION OF POTASSIUM FERRATE(VI) IN THE TREATMENT OF SELECTED WATER AND WASTEWATER POLLUTANTS – SHORT REVIEW

the production of a large number of products, causes formation of new impurities. Despite the availability of a large number of water and wastewater treatment methods, degradation of the aquatic environment still occurs in many parts of the world. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new, effective methods degradation of pollutants and the use of Fe(VI) compounds for wastewater treatment is part of this trend. Fe(VI) salts, such as K2FeO4 (potassium ferrate(VI)) [2] (Fig. 1) are strong oxidants
